ii. The weakening of the polar jet stream can lead to a breakdown of the polar vortex allowing the frigid air of Polar Vortex to spill southward into the areas like southern Canada and the United States.

Q.4. Why did the ozone hole develop over Antarctica and not in other parts?

A. In winter, the stratosphere above the Antarctic continent gets colder than it does anywhere else on Earth. Lower temperatures favor the formation of polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs) which serve as platforms for catalytic ozone breakdown.

B. The circulation over the Antarctic is more persistent and vortex-like as a consequence of having less land. Air inside the vortex is prevented from mixing with warmer, ozone-rich air from lower latitudes.

Correct option is:

a. Only A is correct

b. Only B is correct

c. Both A and B are correct

d. None is correct

Ans: c

Answer is right, but something is wrong in explanation….or vice versa??

      1. The corrected version of statement ii says
“Western disturbance is a monsoonal precipitation pattern”

        It impliies 2 things:
        It is monsonal… Really????
        And
it is not driven by westerlies
        Reallyyyyy??
